hela spa + ted gibson salon :: chevy chase, md.

last night hela spa + ted gibson salon celebrated their grand opening at their chevy chase location! i was thrilled to document the evening – i’ve watched hela grow and change, having the pleasure of working with them for the last two years, starting at their lovely georgetown spa. meeting ted gibson and his talented team has been fantastic (for photography and for my hair!) and i feel very lucky to count them among my wonderful clients!

a stunning pink carpet lined the entrance to the salon and guests were greeted with an espresso bar, moet rose champagne + delicious cuisine. conversation + laughter flowed as guests mingled and toured the salon. it was a fantastic event and i think i speak for everyone in the dc when i say we are ecstatic to welcome ted gibson + his team and excited for their partnership with hela!

last week i had the privilege to photograph the announcement ceremony for the sheikh zayed institute for pediatric surgical innovation at children’s national medical center, made possible by an incredible $150 million gift from the government of abu dhabi – the largest ever for pediatric surgery. i love working with cnmc – they do amazing work and have the absolute best staff and community ever. i am always honored and humbled when i document their events, and this time was no different. among the speakers were dc mayor adrian fenty, notable philanthropist joseph robert, and the ambassador of the united arab emirates, his excellency yousef al otaiba. afterwards, there was a reception which ended with a celebratory champagne toast!

baby chase, 9 weeks.

hello (again!) baby chase! just a few weeks ago i met chase for the first time when he was just 5 weeks old! he was cute as could be, but sleepy and hungry during our session! i captured some serene photographs but wanted a little more action, so i popped back over last week for a quick visit and was amazed at how much he had changed! in just a few weeks his little lips are so full, his eyelashes are gorgeously long (aren’t they always on little boys?) and he was far more interested in my camera than before. he grinned and pouted, laughed and yawned, and passed out right at the end…as if on cue :)

stefanie + brendon: married!

i gotta feeling…

stefanie + brendon are married! woo! their wedding was a super fantastic, perfect DC celebration!

this hot little atlanta couple met and fell in love in dc, and i simply *love* their engagement story. just before they moved south to hotlanta, they visited georgetown’s gorgeous campus (and brendon’s alma mater) where brendon paused at the campus chapel and asked stefanie if she thought one day they could come back to this spot. she didn’t quite understand and said of course they’d come back to dc, but brendon had something more specific in mind. and so they returned, two weeks ago, on the first day of august, to that very same chapel, to be married.

i met stefanie + brendon in atlanta where i absolutely fell in love with them. they have amazing energy, gorgeous smiles, and so much love – not just for one another, but for all their family and friends. celebrating their wedding in dc was very important to them, and we trekked all over – from georgetown to downtown and back again for some fantastic photos. their reception was held at the magnificent DAR where everyone danced the night away on the marble portico, under clear starry skies, with a bright moon and shining monuments in the distance. at the very end of the night i had the privilege of riding along with the newlyweds on a night tour of dc – stopping in front of the capitol building for one final, fabulous shot!

stef + brendon: you rock! thank you so much for choosing me to document your love – you are a tremendous, amazing couple and i wish you all the best!!

rachel + scott: engaged!

rachel + scott = perfect.

rachel + scott are engaged! i was so excited to meet this happy young couple in their neighborhood and visit all their favorite places for their engagement session a few weeks ago. we started by strolling up and down main street in del ray, sampling custard at the dairy godmother, and doing a little shopping + shooting at cheesetique – two fabulous places that i can’t wait to visit again!

we stopped by their adorable house for a few shots in their lush yard and on the front porch (check out the fab red door!) next, we took a walk along the waterfront in old town alexandria before heading into dc for some night shots around dupont circle. it was such a great session – i loved the diversity of the locations and rachel + scott are a delightful couple. they are smart, ambitious, and totally in love – my favorite kind of people!

laurie + ben: married!

laurie + ben are married!

you may remember this amazing couple from their recent engagement session where we had the best time running the streets of bethesda. i was *so* incredibly amped up for their wedding day because i just love these two so much! laurie + ben are wonderful individuals with a dynamic love that makes them shine as a couple. i seriously doubt i will ever meet anyone with as much fabulous, positive, amazing energy as laurie – she is unbelievable! watching her and ben together made me so incredibly happy – i totally *love* people that are in love!

laurie + ben love living in bethesda and had the perfect local wedding, showing their guests a glimpse of life in their neighborhood. the wedding events centered around their favorite spots, and the church and hotel were just a few blocks from their home. the ceremony took place at the church in bethesda, followed by a gorgeous reception at the doubletree hotel. it was a gorgeous day and we found tons of great spots for photos, and then traveled through town in a old time trolley – i *love* trolleys!

as insinuated by the title of this post, the reception was totally off the chain – a huge, fun dance floor that rocked all night long! laurie + ben were on fire and so fun to photograph! everyone was on the dance floor, not just their fun-lovin, move-bustin’ friends, but almost every guest, from the little kids to the parents and the grandmas, even the blonde photographer tossed a camera to one of the bridesmaids and got down for a few minutes! the playlist was phenomenal and i had the greatest time ever capturing all the action…enjoy!

laurie + ben: you are the best! i am so happy that you found each other, so thrilled for your life together, and so crazy lucky to have documented your day! thank you!
