kathy + ulisses :: married! tlaxcala, mexico.

a few weeks ago i traveled to the small town of tlaxcala, mexico to document kathy + ulisses’ wedding celebration. the international guest list included over 400 family + friends who reveled in the week’s festivities — singing, dancing, and downing tequila like locals. from touring the pyramids to petting the tequila donkey to balloon bashing + line dancing to “achy breaky heart” en espanol, it was unlike anything ive ever seen!

kathy + ulisses live in chicago (where i recently did their engagement session) but chose to get married in ulisses’ hometown of tlaxcala, where he not only grew up, but where both his father + grandfather once served as mayor of the town. tlaxcala is vibrant and colorful, located in the center of the country with a mountainous landscape and cool, crisp weather. the catholic ceremony took place at the stunning san francisco cathedral in town, and the reception was at the restaurante la fabrica in the hotel la trinidad.

the combination of traditions — mexican drama meets american flair — made for an exciting, emotional, and totally thrilling day. i loved ulisses’ charro suit + huge sombrero, and was amazed by kathy’s gorgeous handmade gown + lacy veil — woohoo mama quinlan! it was a fabulously authentic celebration — kathy + ulisses are such an amazing couple and so loved by everyone, and i feel very, very lucky to call them friends and to have been witness to this very unique wedding.

meghan + jim :: married!

charm city lovefest!

meghan + jim :: married! baltimore, maryland.

i believe that being asked to photograph any wedding is a privilege, but it is undeniably special to capture that day for a fellow photographer. while many of my clients are artists, meghan is a wedding photographer (in addition to a brilliant lawyer) and the fact that she chose me to be part of her celebration filled me with honor + excitement — she traded her camera for a bouquet and trusted me to document her wedding — i was absolutely flattered and, to be honest, a little flustered all at once!

i met meghan + jim in the fall of 2009 for a lifestyle session (the original ‘charm city lovefest’ even before they were engaged) and i instantly loved everything about this couple. they were so happy and relaxed, such a wonderful complement to one another. as we’ve become friends, i realize that that’s what makes them so special — that they are simply + profoundly happy together. and while that might seem like a given for all couples, i have found that is truly a rare and wonderful thing to behold. i love nothing more than being in the presence of people who are happy, people who love freely and openly, people who take nothing for granted. and if i were to describe meghan + jim’s love in just one word, that word would be genuine. sheer joy radiates from this couple, filling the space in between, and spilling out onto everyone that they love and that loves them. when i look at the photo above that’s the first thing i see — the love in the space between them.

kristen + bill :: married!

virginia is for lovers.

kristen + bill are married!

they chose the gorgeous hillsborough vineyards as the setting for their summer wedding, a balmy august afternoon ceremony overlooking the blue ridge mountains, followed by dancing under the stars! it was stunning in every way — classic, romantic, and intimate, the vineyard was a true reflection of kristen + bill, and the ideal backdrop for such a lovely celebration. they are an absolutely amazing couple with an undeniable energy and magnetic charm. i completely fell in love with both of them from the moment we met and i simply adored the way they looked at each other — so blissfully happy!

it was truly a privilege to watch their day unfold, capturing all the wonderful love + laughter they shared with family + friends. just thinking back on the day brings a smile to my face, and i am so happy for kristen + bill!

i *loved* this couple — married just shy of 50 yrs! — whose love + laughter was inspiring!

donna + brian: married!

a {jersey} shore thing.

donna + brian are married! WOO!

this spectacular shore wedding was an all-out, 3-day celebration of love + elation with the most fun, energetic and amazing families i have ever met! i had the absolute best time documenting all of the excitement and emotion that surrounded this couple’s much anticipated nuptials!

i knew from the start that this wedding was going to be awesome – simply put, donna + brian are fantastic people who are totally in love with life and each other. we had an absolute blast at their marathon engagement session last year in philly, and i’ve been looking forward to their big day ever since!

the festivities kicked off with a spirited rehearsal, dinner & tiki bar deck party on friday, and continued throughout the day saturday in preparation for the late afternoon wedding. everything was held at the sea shell resort on long beach island in beach haven, NJ. the ceremony was short + sweet, on their private beach, followed by super fun portraits by the ocean, a lavish cocktail hour, and a beautiful golden sunset.

not surprisingly, the reception was completely off the chain. the slippery band rocked it out, and donna took to the stage – a true rockstar bride! – and delighted her guests by singing! in fact her entire family has talent – her brother + sister-in-law both sang, her dad rocked out some lyrics and everyone else sang along from the crowd. there was no shortage of serious action on the dance floor all night long, a wildly entertaining mix of wedding reception/rock concert/dance off – LOVED it!

i really can’t say enough wonderful things about donna + brian, and am simply thrilled that the images totally ooze the incredible amount of happiness that filled the weekend! i am so grateful to have been a part of this celebration – what an honor to feel so elated, so enthused, and so blissfully happy for two great people who make a perfect couple!

congrats to donna + brian, who although currently honeymooning in hawaii, are *totally* reading this via their blackberries at this very moment! reason #437 why i LOVE them *SO* much!!

rachel + scott :: married!

at long last love.

rachel + scott :: married! the tabard inn – washington, dc.

two weeks ago, in the presence of their closest family + friends, rachel + scott pledged their love with poetic vows on the patio of the quaint + beautiful tabard inn, in downtown dc.

rachel + scott are easily one of the most delightful couples i’ve ever had the pleasure of photographing. i loved them from the moment i met them last summer for their engagement session and have been anticipating their wedding ever since!

seeing his bride for the first time scott’s lip quivered and rachel absolutely shone as she walked down the aisle. i was entranced by the energy between them, and while i’ve been know to get emotional quite often, i was struck by how powerfully i connected with their ceremony…there were amazing readings by their attendants, and rachel delivered a poem that she wrote, entitled “i do” to scott. tears streamed down my face as she spoke – it was absolutely the most eloquent and beautiful expression of true and understanding love i’ve ever heard. i remain completely captivated by the way this young couple expressed their love and appreciation for each other – to me, they are beyond inspiring.

inside the inn, cocktails, conversation + laughter followed, and after dinner there were heartfelt + hilarious toasts, and rachel’s uncle bestowed a buddhist blessing upon the newlyweds. one of scott’s best friends played a song for rachel + scott on his guitar, to the delight and awe of all the guests. champagne flowed and dancing ensued, making it the perfect mix of reflective reverie and all out celebration!

melissa + joe: married!

he won’t stay without melissa…

melissa + joe are married!

they tied the knot with a fabulous celebration two weeks ago on a sunny august afternoon in downtown annapolis. truly one of the most easy going and happy couples ever, melissa + joe had a perfectly blissful day, just as i expected. their love is strong and quiet, and together they are totally magnetic. i love that every couple has such a unique bond and different type of love *and* that i get to witness it on one of their best days ever – yay for weddings!

the ceremony took place at st. mary’s church – and was absolutely stunning. afterwards we lingered in the courtyard for family photos before heading down to the docks for some more fun ones – causing quite the stir among tourists with our entourage…the bridal party was big and spirited and kept everything exciting as we toured around town in the fabulous party bus!

the reception was at the loew’s annapolis – located right on west street with gorgeous decor and a great annapolis vibe. *plus* the loew’s is a pet-friendly hotel! (and yes, cricket came with me for my annapolis weekend getaway!) after cocktail hour in the atrium, guests moved into the ballroom where dinner was served and the party began! i’ve gotten to know this group very well, both socially and in front of the camera (having photographed many of their friends + bridal party) and i knew to expect some serious action on the dance floor! i was delighted to see some sweet moves and even hear the boys sing for their alma mater (lots of maryland alums in attendance – particularly the bride + groom!) – it was fantastic!

melissa + joe thank you so much for having me! i loved being a part of your wedding day and i’m so happy for you both! congrats!!
