blonde photo: the logo.

introducing my fabulous new logo + slogan:

this awesome design is brought to you by funnel: eric kass – the most amazingly talented and innovative designer ever! i am in *love* with the logo (which btw is my silhouette!) the fonts, the slogan, everything! it’s perfect. he even won me over with the capital letters – who knew that was possible?

so learn to love this little head…it will be popping up all over the place pretty soon…

tewaaraton: 2008 trophy.

the premier collegiate lacrosse award.

last night the tewaaraton award foundation honored outstanding men’s + women’s lacrosse players at an awards banquet at the national museum of the american indian.

the 2008 trophy was awarded to hannah nielsen of northwestern university, and mike leveille of syracuse university.

it was a fantastic event, with a cocktail reception and dinner prior to the awards ceremony, where guests and lacrosse finalists + awards recipients mingled and enjoyed the museum. i learned a lot about the history of lacrosse and how the tewaaraton foundation honors the heritage of the sport. i was so impressed by the athletes and excited to document such an awesome evening!

enjoy!

meredith + paul: married!

tying the knot on the shores of the chesapeake.

meredith + paul had a gorgeous ceremony at the chesapeake bay foundation last week. the forecast called for rain but the skies stayed clear as this couple joined together on the sandy shore underneath the late afternoon sun.

meredith was giddy as she said her vows, bursting out in excited laughter as she placed the ring on paul’s finger…their family and friends stood close and smiled as they watched them proclaim their eternal love…

the celebration that followed was spectacular! there was amazing dancing, fantastic energy, and so much love. meredith and paul complement each other perfectly, and their families are fantastic! i loved watching meredith with all of her sisters (and her parents!) getting down on the dance floor, and seeing paul mingle with his family and hang out with his groomsmen. i particularly loved the impromptu cigar-smoking photo shoot and how hilarious they both were during the cake cutting! they took off in a hurry, running through a sea of sparklers and off to start their lives as husband and wife!

meredith + paul: thank you for allowing me to document your wedding. it was an honor being part of your day. i loved every minute of it, and i feels so lucky to have spent this time with you! meredith you are amazing – i *love* your energy and i think you are fabulous! i know that you both will be so happy together and i wish you all the best!

and now, ENJOY!

memorial day.

“to live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.”

my family’s war hero: richard shuck.

the image above is a screen shot from the virtual wall – an online memorial for the soldiers of the vietnam war. each soldier whose name appears on the vietnam wall has page on the site with information about their service as well as photos and commentary. a few years ago, i was asked by my family to write something for my uncle ricky’s page. he served in vietnam at a very young age, and although i never met him i felt honored to put into words a brief memorial for this fantastic site.

below is an excerpt of what i wrote for ricky, the uncle i never knew, but already loved. a man who gave his life for his country and for the hope of saving the lives of others.

A life that is characterized by love is the hardest to lose, and Richard Shuck remains defined by his life, not his death, in the hearts of all who knew him.

For our family, Ricky is icon of love and loss, for we feel eternally cheated to have lost him, but incredibly privileged to have ever had him at all.

And for the generation of family that follows, that of myself and my sister and my cousins, it’s as if we were born with pain already in our hearts for a man who lived and died before our time. A legacy of love exists for our Uncle Ricky that is not contingent on our having ever met him. It will stay with us and continue to live on, traveling within the circle of love that is family, that cannot be severed, that does not end with death.

We all remain forever proud of the man whose name now lives on –

A silent expanse of jet black marble
with thousands of names
carved in gold.
A tombstone
for an army of children
who died
doing what they were told.
– Terri E Wilson, The Wall –

melinda + tim: engagement photos.

a culinary tour featuring ice cream, fancy cocktails, jello shots and chorizo corndogs.

i had a fantastic time hanging out with melinda + tim! they took me to all their favorite spots: whitlow’s on wilson, where they first met, mario’s for some awesome ice cream, royal lee’s for the infamous jello shots, and eat bar for some killer cocktails and super fancy bar treats. melinda and tim are getting married next month and i’m really looking forward to photographing their wedding – they are such a happy couple (check out their amazing smiles!) and a pleasure to be around. melinda is also a *fabulous* and passionate cook and i’m hoping to convince her to give me a few lessons… :)

enjoy!
