national marine sanctuary foundation: awards gala.

preserve. protect. promote.

last week i had the opportunity to photograph the 6th annual national marine sanctuary foundation leadership awards dinner. held in the beautiful atrium of the ronald reagan building, the evening recognized and honored volunteers and leaders in the community, including speaker nancy pelosi and senator barbara mikulski. additionally, the famed dr. sylvia earl (chair, deep ocean exploration and research + explorer-in-residence national geographic society) and jean-michel cousteau (president, ocean futures society) were both honored with lifetime achievement awards for their stellar commitment to ocean exploration, research and preservation.

daniel ho, three-time grammy award winning musician and producer, closed the evening with a amazing performance.

katie + chris: married!

simply delightful.

i LOVE this first photograph. it so perfectly expresses exactly how katie + chris were on their wedding day. chris sits cool and collected, smiling adoringly at his bride, while katie is bursting with laughter and excitement. i really enjoyed this wedding, and i loved spending time with katie + chris. they are such amazing people: talented, accomplished, driven and doing great things with their lives. katie is a world traveler, a documentary photographer and has a fantastic sense of humor. i couldn’t love her more! not to mention she has amazing taste: her details were stunning! she wore the cutest peach shoes (which matched the jr. bridesmaids blue ones) had gorgeous flowers, and the most unbelievable dress i have ever seen. i LOVED this dress. it was breathtaking. someone said she looked just like a delicate dandelion. everyone agreed she was a total rockstar. her dress made me want to get married, just so i could wear something so fabulous.

the reception was a total blast: tons of wild dancing, a fun twist on the cake cutting (chocolate cake “shots”) and everyone having a great time on a gorgeous may evening in st. michael’s, maryland.

enjoy!

carrie + jay: engagement photos.

the city is our playground.

have i mentioned lately how much i *love* my neighborhood? or just dc in general? the more i shoot on these streets the more i appreciate all the funky spots for awesome photos there are in this city!

i had a ridiculously good time with carrie + jay last week…and not just because the shoot included a mini-bar crawl through adams’ morgan ;) these two are a riot! i cannot wait for their wedding later this year! carrie is sassy as anything (my FAVE quality in a person) and jay is simply great. i had just as much fun chatting with them as i did snapping their pics and they were so natural and relaxed in front of the camera – loved it! we strolled around adams’ morgan and logan on a beautiful wednesday afternoon and found the best spots for some really fun photos!

guess who’s getting married on november 22?

rock you like a hurricane.

the boardwalk: ocean city, md.

a SNEAK PEEK from annie + marty’s AMAZING wedding yesterday…many more to come, but i just had to share these incredible images from the very end of the night…

after surviving the INSANE STORM that threatened to, but did not, interfere with their beautiful beach ceremony (yet struck immediately afterward) and all the chaos that goes along with a feisty mother nature (gale force winds + torrential downpour = soaking wet bridal party and photog) i am still BEYOND thrilled to have been part of this phenomenal day.

i may have emerged 3 umbrellas, 1 camera + 1 lens lighter (casualties of the weather) but i have these (and so many more!) amazing shots that make it all worth it…a million times over.

annie + marty: what can i say? you guys ROCK!! stay tuned for the real blog…coming soon!

tewaaraton: 2008 trophy.

the premier collegiate lacrosse award.

last night the tewaaraton award foundation honored outstanding men’s + women’s lacrosse players at an awards banquet at the national museum of the american indian.

the 2008 trophy was awarded to hannah nielsen of northwestern university, and mike leveille of syracuse university.

it was a fantastic event, with a cocktail reception and dinner prior to the awards ceremony, where guests and lacrosse finalists + awards recipients mingled and enjoyed the museum. i learned a lot about the history of lacrosse and how the tewaaraton foundation honors the heritage of the sport. i was so impressed by the athletes and excited to document such an awesome evening!

enjoy!

meredith + paul: married!

tying the knot on the shores of the chesapeake.

meredith + paul had a gorgeous ceremony at the chesapeake bay foundation last week. the forecast called for rain but the skies stayed clear as this couple joined together on the sandy shore underneath the late afternoon sun.

meredith was giddy as she said her vows, bursting out in excited laughter as she placed the ring on paul’s finger…their family and friends stood close and smiled as they watched them proclaim their eternal love…

the celebration that followed was spectacular! there was amazing dancing, fantastic energy, and so much love. meredith and paul complement each other perfectly, and their families are fantastic! i loved watching meredith with all of her sisters (and her parents!) getting down on the dance floor, and seeing paul mingle with his family and hang out with his groomsmen. i particularly loved the impromptu cigar-smoking photo shoot and how hilarious they both were during the cake cutting! they took off in a hurry, running through a sea of sparklers and off to start their lives as husband and wife!

meredith + paul: thank you for allowing me to document your wedding. it was an honor being part of your day. i loved every minute of it, and i feels so lucky to have spent this time with you! meredith you are amazing – i *love* your energy and i think you are fabulous! i know that you both will be so happy together and i wish you all the best!

and now, ENJOY!
