yeti + carl: married!

come rain or come shine…

yeti + carl are married! their fabulous june wedding was one wild celebration that gave mother nature a run for her money! on one of the hottest days of the year yeti + carl said “i do” in a sweltering church, sans air conditioning, fanned (literally) by their family + friends. as if the heat wasn’t enough, a serious summer storm swept in and threatened to take down the house! the reception was held on the water at celebrations on the bay, under a massive tent. strong winds knocked out power, and we were left in the dark without music, without lights, and once again without AC! not to be discouraged, this fantastic sierra leonian celebration continued, with much dancing, cheering, toasting, and undeniable energy and excitement for yeti + carl.

this wedding was a joint collaboration between myself and MK – a BLONDE PHOTO/MARY KATE MCKENNA production that Mk refers to as MK & J! it was wonderful as always shooting with MK, and at a festive sierra leonian wedding it would have been impossible to do it alone! there are so many wonderful traditions and events happening at once that one photog is never enough, and luckily we have experience with african weddings and so we knew exactly what we were in for – the ultimate celebration! yay for yeti + carl!

enjoy!

sara + jack: married!

crazy love.

sara + jack rock my world. we had the best time ever at their engagement session a few weeks ago in downtown annapolis, and i just knew that the wedding was going to be off the chain. yes, i just said “off the chain.” somewhere MK is shaking her head and laughing, because while i use this term a lot, sara + jack gave it new meaning at their insanely high-energy, super fun wedding BASH!

i met with them earlier this year through a mutual friend and we totally hit it off over coffee – their adorable little boy jackson sat in my lap through the entire meeting and i was smitten!

the three of them make the perfect family! sara + jack are clearly head-over-heels in love and their family + friends were all so very happy to celebrate the day with them. after a beautiful ceremony outside at the morningside inn, the party got under way! we did some of the craziest portraits ever – with the groomsmen deciding to make a pyramid with jack on top, and then the bridesmaids refusing to be outdone and forming one as well! hilarious! the reception was full of funny toasts and heartfelt speeches, non-stop dance moves and outrageous garter/bouquet/fun, and the messiest cake cutting ever!

the day was a whirlwind of excitement, and i know these two will be very happy together – they were made for each other!

enjoy!

a big thank you to everyone for going outside at the end of the night for this super fun shot of the whole party! and to sara + jack for being the most fun ever!! last but certainly not least, thanks to jessi ringer who shot with me for all her creative ideas and great energy! YAY!

jessi, jack, sara + me!

melinda + tim: married!

celebrate good times.

melinda + tim’s wedding was absolutely fabulous! between the incredible details, to the intimate ceremony, to the rockin’ dance floor and the late night trip to krispy kreme, i am completely in love with every image from this wedding! it was *super* hard to narrow it down (and therefore its taken me weeks to blog, sorry!) but here they are: melinda + tim: married! yay!

i’ve been lucky enough to spend a lot of time with melinda and tim: last year they were the first couple i booked for 2008 and therefore have a very special place in my heart :) their engagement session was *so* much fun and i feel very lucky to have gotten a chance to get to know them better. their wedding was a perfect representation of their personalities and relationship: it was the ideal mix of classic elegance and extreme jubilation. melinda’s commitment to “lack of wedding nonsense” (her words, not mine!) was apparent in the relaxed, serene atmosphere of the entire day. however, after their first dance – which they finished with a high-five – the party got started! i’m so thrilled that the photos truly express the exhilaration of the reception…it was fantastic! the evening concluded with a stroll to dupont circle and a treat of hot donuts at midnight, and we were surprised and delighted to find a large brass band playing in the street. hundreds of people gathered around as tim twirled his bride and everyone cheered…

as they danced i knew this was the single most amazing thing that i’ve ever seen happen at a wedding and even now i get goosebumps just remembering it…melinda and tim, so happy, dancing under the streetlights to the rhythm of the band, totally in love, with the whole city watching.

congratulations melinda + tim: and thank you so much for allowing me to document your truly amazing wedding!

ENJOY!

eric + laura: engagement photos.

hiking along the falls.

eric + laura took me to great falls for their engagement session last week…they love hiking the trails and spending time at the falls and it was a nice change from shooting in the city! this was my first time out to the falls in a very long time, and i forgot how far removed it feels, even though its just 20 mintues away! it was a very warm evening, and we hiked at least a mile or more over the rocky terrain to get sweeping views of the falls below. thanks to eric + laura for a great field trip and i can’t wait for their wedding at the end of august! its hard to believe that i’m not shooting another wedding until theirs – when i’ve had at least one wedding every weekend for the last few months! as you can see this is the 3rd blog post today – i’m working hard to get caught up…enjoy!

margie + jeff: engagement photos.

an afternoon engagement in the park.

i had a delightful evening with margie + jeff at montrose park in georgetown a few weeks ago…early evening light gives the park a very dark and romantic feel, and the photos are simply gorgeous. margie + jeff are going to have a fantastically fun wedding at the end of august and i can’t wait! i’m on vacation as of next week and theirs is one of the first weddings i have after my long (much needed!) hiatus from this very busy wedding season! enjoy!

margie + jeff also had a little fun with my cameras ;)

*also* a big thanks to jessi ringer – a fabulous chick and spankin’ new photog from knoxville who spent the weekend shooting with me…she was an absolute pleasure to have with me and she took some great photos! check out her pics from this session here! thanks jessi!

ella + hayley: lifestyle session.

girls just want to have fun.

i can’t imagine a better way to spend a sunday morning than playing with ella + hayley! they immediately welcomed me into their playroom with huge smiles and showed me all their favorite games…not only are they absolutely adorable, but they have the sweetest personalities and love each other so much! ella is a fantastic big sister – especially with her “the youngest goes first” rule when playing any game! she is so kind to hayley and it’s obvious that hayley simply adores ella – so cute!!

their boundless energy was so refreshing – it’s been too long since i’ve spent the day with little girls! of course it made me miss my little sister, and nostalgic for the days when we played from morning until night – completely unaffected by the world around us, and having the time of our lives.

it’s been said that sisters are the closest thing anyone can have to a true soul mate – and i feel so lucky to have such an incredible sister. she was my first and favorite best friend ever, and i love her so very much. i am so glad that ella + hayley have each other, and i know their lives will be so much richer because they will share everything together.

i choose to photograph weddings because i love to document love and relationships. photographing ella + hayley today was also a way of documenting the love and bond between two people. individually the girls were awesome, but together they were perfectly captivating – i wanted so bad to be little too! everything they did made them squeal with delight – from jumping on the couch to riding their bikes. they are living in their own perfect world – sharing secrets, creating games, even inventing their own language. but most importantly they are laughing and loving and living every moment the way we are all meant to.

enjoy!

great parents + wonderful little girls = beautiful family!
