buddha + sumo: shihtzu session!

i absolutely love photographing people with their pets! so i was thrilled when karen contacted me about a session with her adorable and beloved shihtzus, buddha + sumo! it was another very cold winter day in dc, but we braved the windy rooftop and the dog park to get some really fun shots! buddha + sumo have a beautiful home and a fabulous life with their amazing owners! karen + steve: thank you for inviting me into your lives so i could spend the day with your gorgeous + blissful shihtzus – i love them!!!

charlie + callie: lifestyle.

blonde photo lifestyle sessions = playtime!

i had so much fun playing with charlie + callie! a few weeks ago i spent the afternoon with these two as they showed me their circus tricks, played dress up, made art, and even built all sorts of crazy things! the cold winter weather didn’t stop them from showing me how they climb trees, race around on scooters and have fun together! in addition to charlie + callie, i had the joy of meeting lucy – the spunkiest little puppy ever! her + charlie are best buds and it was an absolute riot watching them play together! the only time lucy didn’t have charlie’s full attention was when he was busy playing with his awesome big sister callie – and lucy would either jump in the mix or watch anxiously from the sidelines, tail wagging! not only the kids super fun, but they have some pretty cool parents, and we managed to sneak in a few quick family photos as well! i had a blast with this family – it was the perfect way to spend a cold winter day! thanks guys – enjoy!

brynn: lifestyle family session.

baby makes three.

hello baby brynn!

it was such a delight to spend the morning photographing this lovely family – i love lifestyle sessions because i get the chance to observe and document family life + love and capture such awesome moments!

to me photography is like life: best appreciated for the moments in between – the emotion, the laughter, even the tears – and i think its amazing to preserve actual memories, not just staged photos. i always love a few really nice family photos, but i adore how expressive *these* photos are, capturing brynn’s incredibly inquisitive gaze, her intense dislike of hats, her big wide yawn (love!) and her tranquil sleepiness. in turn, i absolutely love seeing the reactions and expressions on her parents’ faces in every image – they look at her with admiration, awe, concern, and such incredible, unconditional love. it’s easy to see why family is so special and how our lives are truly shaped by the love we share.

here’s to babies – little bundles of joy (and tears, and laughter, and everything else you can imagine!)

mary + peter: anniversary!

the good life.

mary + peter just celebrated their one year wedding anniversary! what better way to commemorate a year of marriage than with a fabulous anniversary session! (well, that AND a trip to las vegas!) last weekend we strolled through logan circle (their old neighborhood and mine) and i got to catch up with one of my favorite couples ever. mary + peter are super cute together – simply a perfect match. married life is treating them great and they recently expanded their family with a puppy! it’s hard to believe it was just a year ago that i documented their thai buddhist blessing ceremony, on a brisk sunday morning following their catholic wedding. they were glowing in spite of the chilly fall morning, surrounded by their family + friends and wrapped in the love and traditions of their unique celebration. it was a spectacular day, and one i think of often because of the wonderful rituals, loving families, and the beauty and serenity of the wat yarnna rangsee buddhist monastery.

fast forward one year later, to a very regular sunday afternoon where i once again saw that magic and connection, and was witness to love in full bloom. i couldn’t be happier for these newlyweds and am honored to be able to continue to document their love + life together. they make each other so happy, and i felt happier just being around them.

to mary + peter: hooray!

matty: lifestyle session.

a rope swing, a giant sunflower, and the many faces of matty.

matty is awesome. from the moment we met he was super flirty (aren’t all little boys?) and loved the attention of my camera. i had no problem making him laugh and catching him being happy + silly, he has a wonderful family and a very happy, fun life :)

i loved chasing matty around his yard, watching him swing on the rope swing and hearing his funny stories – he cracked me up! his parents joined in the shoot for a few fun family photos and i was able to capture some interaction between matty and the baby growing in his mommy’s belly – she’s expecting in just a few months and matty already loves the baby and i can’t wait to come back and see the whole family together!

sydney + tucker: lifestyle session.

backyard adventure!

last week i drove up to new jersey for lifestyle sessions with two great families: both moms have babies on the way and i bounced back and forth shooting fun candid images of these happy neighbors and their beautiful families!

i started at sydney + tucker’s house: they have a great backyard with lots of gorgeous trees, an amazing swingset, and lots of room to run around! these two have so much energy and love to have fun, especially tucker! he is a boy on the move! they are both very excited about the new baby that is on the way and their mom, jen, is absolutely glowing!
