DEVELOPER conference.

last week i covered my first conference for HANLEY WOOD – the 2007 DEVELOPER conference at the omni shoreham hotel in dc…in my dual role as web editor/photographer i attended the conference with editorial motives and my camera in tow – the result was an incredible compilation of news stories written by the talented DEVELOPER magazine staff and a slideshow that i created illustrating the two-day event.

check it out HERE – for those of you who are interested in what i do at my other full-time job as an online magazine editor!

peter + mary: just married!

we had a fantastic time at peter + mary’s thai buddhist blessing this morning…they were married yesterday at st. matthew’s cathedral in dc – so they celebrated twice!

today’s ceremony was at the incredible wat yarnna rangsee buddhist monastery in sterling, virginia. it was my first time at a buddhist monastery and it was such an interesting experience – i feel like i spent the day in thailand!

there are so many amazing photos to go through – i’ll post a full blog later – but i really love this one of john and i with the gorgeous couple (thanks to kristen for capturing this shot!).
they begin their 2-week long honeymoon early tomorrow morning – much deserved after 2 wedding receptions! bon voyage!

tracy + aaron.

tracy and aaron are pretty much the most outrageous couple ever. they are super funny, extremely outgoing, very silly, and totally in love…not to mention totally perfect for each other.

from the moment i met them both i knew this was going to be a crazy fun wedding – they both exude energy.
we had plenty of time to take fun getting ready pictures, especially of aaron and the boys. they were goofing around in this fancy conference room and i got some great shots of them on their cell phones ;)

we headed to the national arboretum to take portraits at the capital columns – wow! it was such a striking backdrop, and the bridal party looked great. it was here that they signed the ketubah – and they were married! but wait, there’s more! back to the arbor ballroom at the washington times building for the ceremony…which was beautiful. 150 guests looked on at tracy + aaron proclaimed their love for one another…

the reception. what can i even say? this was a fabulous reception. there was crazy dancing, starting with a beautiful choreographed first dance between the bride and groom, and peaking with the awesome hava nagila. there was also a hilarious performance by the groom’s brother (and best man), and brother-in-law where they (in keeping with tradition!) rapped to the couple. it was spectacular. they even donned sunglasses while rapping. tracy and aaron (and everyone else) howled with laughter and then gave them huge round of applause.

the biggest hit was – without a doubt – the photo booth. guests loved taking their picture in this party booth, and then pasting the images into the guestbook. tracy and aaron even made their way into the booth a couple of times – once with mk and i! it was so much fun…

at the very end of the night we took them into the tunnel that passes under new york avenue where they posed for pictures and generally acted silly while we snapped away. it was such a great time…

to tracy + aaron: thank you so much for letting me be part of your awesome wedding…it was beyond fun…i seriously had the time of my life and am thrilled just to have spent the day with you both. your love and energy is truly inspiring, and you have amazing friends and family. i wish nothing but the best for you both and all the exciting adventures to come…mazel tov!

alex funk.

funk.jpg

last night i had dinner with my good friend alex funk, who in addition to being dashingly handsome and hilariously funny, is a ridiculously talented dj.

it was so great to see him and catch up – between our schedules it takes nothing short of sheer luck for us to be able to hang out. he’s such a big deal now, and i’m so excited for him – he played the main stage at pride in baltimore this year, and is booking such cool gigs, in addition to playing local venues all around dc and b-more. his music totally gets me moving (a challenging task, see #3 below) not to mention he has an AMAZING remix of “ice, ice baby” (see #2 below).

we started laughing about an awesome photo shoot we did in the beginning of the year at his former studio – a massive warehouse in east baltimore. it was a blast running around the building and shooting in such a raw, industrial space, and then he spun for a while and i snapped away. those were pre-blogging days and i wanted to share a couple of our favorites…including the one above on his website. check him out at www.getfunk.com…GET FUNK!

grace.

grace – who just turned 3! – didn’t seem to mind (or even notice) me snapping away as she played poolside with her favorite tea set. she is simply the sweetest little girl ever…not to mention beautiful! i love the way the sun lit her hair, her tentative smile, and the way she looks SO serious in some of the photos!
