rooftop party.

saturday marked the first annual rooftop dance bash for a cause – the party took place downtown at 1700 pennsylvania avenue, and guests rocked out on the expansive rooftop, enjoying pink vodka and raising money for the e.l. haynes charter school.

sean cain, a 3rd grade teacher at e.l. haynes, got the crowd going by exhibiting his dj skills, while other teachers poured stiff drinks for the guests…

hosts winston lord, jacquelyn davis and kimball stroud mingled throughout, greeting the hundreds that were in attendance – including the usual suspects, the local celebrities, and even producer stephen nemeth, who produced fear and loathing in las vegas

serious dancing got under way when dc dj seyhan duru showed up later in the night and mixed it up on the stage…summer may officially be over, but the parties are just getting started…hello “event season” in dc!

andrew blecher.

dc bid a fond farewell to andrew blecher – the now former pr/special events/fashion expert of saks fifth avenue in chevy chase – as he heads for the big apple…the party was at napolean in adams morgan, and hundreds of guests passed through the doors to sip champagne with andrew and send him off in style…

yinibini.

i had the pleasure of running into up-and-coming designer soyini george last night, when i stopped into shake your booty looking for shoes…i was coming from andrew belcher’s farewell party at the very chic napolean, and soyini was just closing the shop…we got to talking and i checked out her work – it’s great! she’s a true hands-on designer – all of her jewelry and clothing is silk screened, embroidered, sequined or painted by hand! her line is yinibini – and you can order online or find her items at shake your booty in adams morgan. i snapped a few very quick pictures, since she and her line were *so* cute!

DEVELOPER conference.

last week i covered my first conference for HANLEY WOOD – the 2007 DEVELOPER conference at the omni shoreham hotel in dc…in my dual role as web editor/photographer i attended the conference with editorial motives and my camera in tow – the result was an incredible compilation of news stories written by the talented DEVELOPER magazine staff and a slideshow that i created illustrating the two-day event.

check it out HERE – for those of you who are interested in what i do at my other full-time job as an online magazine editor!

tracy + aaron.

tracy and aaron are pretty much the most outrageous couple ever. they are super funny, extremely outgoing, very silly, and totally in love…not to mention totally perfect for each other.

from the moment i met them both i knew this was going to be a crazy fun wedding – they both exude energy.
we had plenty of time to take fun getting ready pictures, especially of aaron and the boys. they were goofing around in this fancy conference room and i got some great shots of them on their cell phones ;)

we headed to the national arboretum to take portraits at the capital columns – wow! it was such a striking backdrop, and the bridal party looked great. it was here that they signed the ketubah – and they were married! but wait, there’s more! back to the arbor ballroom at the washington times building for the ceremony…which was beautiful. 150 guests looked on at tracy + aaron proclaimed their love for one another…

the reception. what can i even say? this was a fabulous reception. there was crazy dancing, starting with a beautiful choreographed first dance between the bride and groom, and peaking with the awesome hava nagila. there was also a hilarious performance by the groom’s brother (and best man), and brother-in-law where they (in keeping with tradition!) rapped to the couple. it was spectacular. they even donned sunglasses while rapping. tracy and aaron (and everyone else) howled with laughter and then gave them huge round of applause.

the biggest hit was – without a doubt – the photo booth. guests loved taking their picture in this party booth, and then pasting the images into the guestbook. tracy and aaron even made their way into the booth a couple of times – once with mk and i! it was so much fun…

at the very end of the night we took them into the tunnel that passes under new york avenue where they posed for pictures and generally acted silly while we snapped away. it was such a great time…

to tracy + aaron: thank you so much for letting me be part of your awesome wedding…it was beyond fun…i seriously had the time of my life and am thrilled just to have spent the day with you both. your love and energy is truly inspiring, and you have amazing friends and family. i wish nothing but the best for you both and all the exciting adventures to come…mazel tov!

hela

img_7874.jpg

if you live in dc and you haven’t yet become familiar with hela, it’s time to pay a visit to this stunning swedish day spa. right in the heart of georgetown, on M st, across from the city tavern club, hela has been featured in all of the chicest publications, including my personal favorite daily candy.

on tuesday evening, the spa hosted a swanky cocktail hour together with the washington performing arts society, showcasing two incredibly talented musicians: changamire and lincoln ross. their awesome jazzy blues sounds complemented the serene atmosphere of hela perfectly.

guests lounged sipping on champagne, wine, and sparkling swedish juice, and received complimentary chair massages and skin analysis. the crew from cafe bonaparte was also there, serving up fresh (and delicious!) crepes…how awesome is that?

it was a great event, and a great venue, and above all, a great spa! this coming from it’s newset client!
