blonde photo: the logo.

introducing my fabulous new logo + slogan:

this awesome design is brought to you by funnel: eric kass – the most amazingly talented and innovative designer ever! i am in *love* with the logo (which btw is my silhouette!) the fonts, the slogan, everything! it’s perfect. he even won me over with the capital letters – who knew that was possible?

so learn to love this little head…it will be popping up all over the place pretty soon…

just another saturday night.

it’s always an adventure in the life of the blonde photographer.

this spectacle could only happen to me.

seriously.

i was driving home from an awesome engagement shoot in baltimore one minute, stranded in the ghetto the next…

it wasn’t until i was coming into the city on new york avenue that i noticed something wasn’t right with my car. i heard a rumbling sound and immediately freaked out. as much as i love my adorable passat, i’ve had more complications with this vehicle than any of the other dozen cars i’v owned in my lifetime. slowing down at a light, i realized that the sound i was hearing was a (shockingly my first ever!) flat tire. no big deal i thought (stupidly), refusing to pull over and investigate due to my undesirable location. also, i was less than 5 miles from home, so i decided to push on. this is when the rumbling progressed to a loud flapping, and i began to feel like i was driving on a time bomb. i rolled down the passenger window to get a better listen and was overwhelmed by the stench of burning rubber. not good. dialing roadside assistance, i continued to drive, slowly, with hazards on, down ny ave. – much to the chagrin and utter aggravation of my fellow drivers. let’s just say i got the finger at least a few times, and more honking than i heard from the crazed taxi drivers in south america.

panic stricken and certain i was going to cause an accident in the midst of this insanity, i turn off onto florida avenue and briefly consider pulling into a gas station for assistance. however, it’s after 11pm and i’m still not in the best part of town – not to mention i have all my gear on me, as well as my macbook pro, etc, so i’m not feeling good about stopping the car at all. so it’s no surprise that my first reaction upon seeing another car flagging me down was to hit the gas, fearful of looking vulnerable and skeptical of anyone truly wanting to “help” me. however, one glance at the four smiling, waving faces from the windows, and i reconsidered quickly. i pulled over and two were guys already walking towards my car. i decided they truly wanted to help me, not harm me, so trusting my instinct (ever-hopeful that all people are inherently good) i got out and proclaimed the obvious: “i have a really flat tire!”

really flat doesn’t even do this macerated piece of rubber justice. i can only assume it went flat somewhere on the bw parkway and began melting along ny ave. by the time i stopped, it was punctured and rippled and bizarre looking. minutes after the guys stopped, i heard sirens and saw an ambulance approaching. apparently, upon seeing the car askew, and a man on the ground they though they were responding to a call for an unconscious victim. next, the fire truck and EMS units arrived. even though i assured them everything was OK, within moments flares blazing behind my car (now flanked by the fire truck) and half a dozen firefighters were working on the tire.

i was overwhelmed by the spectacle, amazed by everyones willingness to help, and feeling so utterly useless i did the only things i knew how to do in a situation like this: thanked everyone profusely, provided comic relief, and grabbed my camera and started shooting.

golfing with the groom.

an 8 o’clock tee time with the groom to be.

lesson learned: when golf isn’t going great – photograph yourself!

in spite of having worked on a golf course for many years (beverage cart girl, bartender), i have never actually played golf, much less swung a golf club correctly. however, when marc put out an open invitation for a round of golf on his wedding day i jumped at the opportunity. a polo shirt, some rented clubs and a set of 15 golf balls later, i was on the course before 8 am ready to go, camera in hand of course. jessica claire should be happy to know that a shootsac looks fabulous when paired with golf attire! i had a fantastic time, only losing 3 balls in the water and managing a few decent swings. my frustrations became increasingly entertaining, and i’m not certain i even finished the 18th hole, but i did enjoy taking photos of our enjoyable outing!

marc looking perfectly relaxed + vicky teeing off.

i’m confused…because i don’t understand golf and someone else is using my camera against me!

when all else fails, find an appropriate target…

this pretty much sums up my day.

i relaxed a little after i realized our “pros” weren’t taking things too seriously either.

marc blames vicky for tearing up the fairway on the 18th hole…?

south of the border.

revisiting the mecca of my childhood.

on wednesday i set out on a 900-mile road trip down the east coast. following 95 south from dc i passed into virignia, then north carolina, recalling the simlilarities and differences of this trip to florida. when i was young, my family traveled down to florida a few times a year – always making the familiar 15-hour drive down 95. these trips were so exciting to me – not just because of the destination (florida! grandma mary dot’s house! the beach! and of course, disney – the playground of my youth.) but also because i thoroughly enjoyed the journey. i loved watching all the passing cars, counting the miles, and marking down statistics: the time between stops, the price of gas, the number of miles in each state, even the number of times we heard certain popular songs on the radio. by and far the most memorable thing about the florida trip was south of the border – a crazy pit stop on the border of the carolinas full of strange statues, colorful restaurants and souvenir shops inspired by and devoted to all things mexcian. billboards begin advertising south of the border at least 150 miles away, and pop up every few miles with quirky messages like: “YOU NEVER SAUSAGE A PLACE!” and “CHILI TODAY, HOT TAMALE!” as well as plenty of pleas from pedro to stop for “free advice” and of course, fireworks.
south of the border, i discovered the other day, is both as fantastic and terrible as i remembered it. i loved getting out of the car (after 6 hours of driving) and exploring the eerie statues and brightly painted buildings – viva pedro!
